Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy is one-to-one individual cognitive therapy to address the specific concerns of each participant. These services are provided in a variety of settings that best address the individual’s needs. Services may be provided in the Structured Day Program, in the home, in the community, in a workplace, etc.
Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy Services include, but are not limited to:
- Assistance with acquisition, retention, or improvement in self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills
- Assistance in acquiring more independent functioning, and improved cognition, communication, and life skills
- The activities and environment are designed to help with the acquisition of skills, appropriate behavior, and personal choice
- Providing support for mood and behavioral stability
- Training and support in any or all of the following, in keeping with an individual’s rehabilitation plan:
- Social skills training
- Sensory/motor development
- Reduction/elimination of maladaptive behaviors
- Task attention
- Task completion
- Problem-solving
- Safety
- Communication skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Money management skills
- Cooking skills
- Leisure and recreation skills
- Pre-vocational skills
- Travel training
- Compensatory strategies/use of cognitive prosthetics
- Computer skills
- Other skills not listed, but required or requested by the individual
All services are provided directly to the participant by TBGHealth staff. Cognitive Rehabilitation Specialists at TBGHealth must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field related to brain injury, counseling, rehabilitation or education. Some Cognitive Rehabilitation Specialists also hold a Certified Brain Injury Specialist credential. All Cognitive Rehabilitation Specialists are supervised by a Licensed Clinical Neuropsychologist.
